Google and Singapore Expand National AI Partnership to Health and Science

Google and the Singapore government have deepened their artificial intelligence cooperation, announcing a new national AI partnership spanning healthcare, scientific research, education and AI safety. The agreement was unveiled jointly with Singapore's Ministry of Digital Development and Information, with elements set to reach public institutions, hospitals, universities and schools across the country.

Health and Research

Healthcare is the largest component of the agreement. Google DeepMind is in talks with Singapore's public healthcare clusters about an AI co-clinician program, in which AI systems would support, not replace, doctors in day-to-day clinical work. The company describes the target model as triadic care, in which AI agents assist the patient under a doctor's clinical supervision.

In parallel, Google.org is contributing $7 million to the Health for Human Potential coalition under the Philanthropy Asia Alliance. The funding is meant to support tools such as AlphaFold and Google Earth, used for faster detection and tracking of infectious disease outbreaks across Southeast Asia.

In research, the A*STAR agency will equip its scientists with secure Google Cloud-based AI tools, including research hypothesis generation features. Google DeepMind has also signed an agreement with the National Research Foundation to train local research teams in using agentic AI tools, including a hypothesis-generation system built on Co-Scientist.

Education and the Job Market

Google is making Gemini for Education available to every teacher in Singapore, from primary schools through pre-university colleges. The tool is meant to help with lesson planning and tailoring materials to students, easing teachers' administrative workload. The Ministry of Education will continue working with Google on training programs to build teachers' digital skills.

The company is also expanding its Forward Deployed Engineers team at the Google Cloud engineering hub in Singapore, tasked with helping companies and public institutions put agentic AI into practice.

Safety and Responsible Deployment

The agreement also includes a joint report by Google, Singapore's Cyber Security Agency, GovTech and the local regulator IMDA analyzing results from sandbox testing of computer-using AI agents. Google DeepMind will further work with IMDA and MLCommons on safety testing for multilingual and multimodal models, accounting for the region's local languages and cultural contexts.

There's also an environmental initiative: the Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet program in the Asia-Pacific region will support startups, research teams and NGOs working on challenges related to energy, water and agriculture.
